| So, after a typical (of us) late-night conversation about our individual character merits (aka ego stroking ;) and my usual lamenting of my lack of discipline in the following department, I promised my friend Jamie that I'd draw (and then post) SOMEthing when I got home late Sunday night. I DID draw something, but I wasn't too crazy about it and held off posting it until now. To offset said drawing (which I don't necessarily think is bad, just not...up to my personal standards of what I would usually choose to post (and kind of generally creepy looking)) I am again including a few more drawings from some years ago (2006, to be exact) that I came across while searching for an old piece that I'm planning to soon develop/continue further (so that's something to look forward to/is motivating me - yay! :) Enough 'talk'. Drawings time!:
(Click any one to see it rilly BIG :)
So here's the 'new' drawing; done on the inside edge of the cover of a new standard size (10½" x 8") spiral notebook I've just started writing/drawing in:

As you can see by the writing all over the drawing, I clearly had issue with/a lot to say about it (including numbering the order in which I wrote/drew stuff - what?) while I drew it. Having said all that (at least twice now, sorry), here is an image of just the initial drawing of the(/my, kinda) head, alone (which, as I said, isn't really a bad drawing, just...weird, but I sorta like it by itself :)

Next, a little gem from the aforementioned 2006 sketchbook; a better/cuter/funnier one of me, trying on some new pants:

And lastly, another old drawing (this one a personal favorite of mine (both the person and the illustration ;) my good friend, Daniel (Pilger; other details written right on there ;)

I suppose it's worth noting that each one of these (both of the 2006s and the current one) were drawn straight with a brush pen, no preliminary pencils. It's kinda 'how I roll' sometimes ;)
(I also, apparently, love drawing everyone from their left side/facing right and hate color ;)
Well, thanks for stopping by, again. Please leave me comments/messages/what-have-yous, check back often, and tell all your friends ('specially the ones that need awesome illustrations for projects (hopefully for money, but if not (depending ;) that's cool, too.
Be well! | | |
| Long day of 'catering job' work tomorrow (today, technically); should be asleep, but haven't been able to yet. It's good, though, 'cause I really wanted to post some scans/something before I went to bed. So, here I go:
Good day today. Went and saw 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' for the fourth (yes, FOURTH; it's a really great/fun little movie!) time, with friends Heather, Buddy, Nadia (who's also my housemate :) and not-seen-in-far-too-long Nyssa :) followed by productive afternoon (including final travel plans/flight booking for trip to Chicago at the end of the month, balancing checkbook, finishing touches on the loft bed Pete & I constructed in my room, and napping ;) attending of Circle of Hope 7pm public meeting (which was filled with seeing and talking to many wonderful friends & new acquaintances (like the delightful Mrs. Sarah Grey (of Sarah White's infamous meeting story - they bumped into each other in the street and share the same first name, one-shade-off last name, and SAME BABY DAUGHTER'S NAME!), great worship, a good 'talk' by Joshua, and a powerful, informative, and healthfully convicting lesson on the current situation in Afghanistan by Jay) and then good hangout time at Matt & Kim Tice's place (also my first visit there - lovely little house :) for Daniel's birthday. Good conversations with Jeff Wheeler, Rachel Maciag, returned-home-for-a-hot-second Danny Grivjack, and others, home for a brief chill with Mikey, some internet time, and now this: 3 bits of art by yours truly (a couple from the not-TOO-distant archives, one from this very night ;)
(Click on any of 'em to see 'em BIGGER)
The first, from a year or two ago, drawn on the back of a box of plastic gloves during a catering job shift:

The next from my friend Bryan Dwyer's 'Give Pizza Chance' pizza-themed show this past May:

And finally, the page of things I wrote/doodled while 'at church' earlier tonight (the Jesus on the left sketched hastily from a slide (of a very romanticized painting of the Transfiguration of Jesus) Joshua showed for a minute during his talk):

Let me know what y'all think of this stuff, and here's hoping that all this leads to more frequent and better/more polished entries in the near future :)
Thank you, and goodnight.

| If you're reading this, you most likely arrived here via a link in a post I wrote on the Facebook (y'know, that social networking site that EVERYone left this one (and several others) for?) that begged you to do so. If not, I'm shocked, but pleased :) Anyway, as the title indicates, it's been a bit since I've posted here on xanga, but after a couple of attempts over the last few years to create new 'blogs' in more up-to-date/hip/whatever styles elsewhere, I've decided that I still love the simple & silly layout/color scheme/content of this, my old, faithful 'something clever' page, so I thought I'd just pick up where I left off. I may update the look or change to a whole new place, eventually, but, for now, I'm sticking with the classic :) Anyway, I thought I'd try a fresh start in September ('Significantly-More-Productive September'? ;) by getting off my ass and posting some art, along with making a few other 'dramatic' changes in my life, including, but not limited to: shaving my head and building a loft bed in my new room (both for the first time in some years (shades of JPUSA ;) and doing/posting art more regularly again. I'm also going to TRY and not use as many 'smileys'/'emoticons' (a strange, surprising habit that I picked up over the last few years that I can't seem to shake...) We'll see how this all plays out, but (again), for now, here we go/are a few gems ;)
(And, as always, click on any of the pictures to view them BIGGER :)
This is the last picture I took with my laptop (dated July 11th, 2010) before moving out of my old place:

This is the latest piece of art I've done (that I like enough to put up here, anyway); it's a sign I drew up for the most recent mewithoutYou show at the TLA here in Philly, featuring a super deformed/cutesy-'cartoony' version of my old friend (and current house-mate! :) Mike Almquist (who also happens to do merch design/sales and tour manage for our friends in mwY). Funnily, I ended up working the merch table the entire night in Mikey's stead (as he was very busy with his tour manager duties ;) therefore making ME the 'Merch Man' for the night. Anyway, I drew it on the spot with no preliminary pencils (all Sharpie®) and it turned out pretty good :)

And finally, this is me, tonight, in my 'new' room (with frame of said loft bed - mucho thanks, Pete :) and said no hair (Sorry, Amanda; I am just planning on letting it grow out all fall/winter, though, so, y'know: the hair is nigh ;)

'Til next time (which I hope will be no more than a couple days from now, if not tomorrow):
Thanks for stopping by :)

| So I took a little break. Here's my first new comic in a year:
As you can tell, I've been hard at work perfecting both my art and my jokes. All kidding aside, it's something, and I'm going to try and do it weekly, so...it will probably improve. Also, I have no scanner currently, or a decent art program on the ol' hand-me-down computer, so this is a composite made from cell phone photos of the individual panels. I will put up a better (read: actual) scan of this incredibly funny and well-drawn comic soon-ish. I hope you enjoyed it a bit, and thanks for stopping by, San Diego...
| I love this album more than I've loved any one album for a long, long time.
It's scary. And scary good. If you like these guys at all, and haven't picked this up yet, do it. If you listened to it once and thought it was just "okay", listen to it a few more times, on headphones, turned up as loud as your ears can stand, and discover the awesomeness. Oh, and read Aaron's fantastic lyrics. So many hidden gems... Good job, my friends, good job. P.S. Art will come here soon...thanks to any for reading/caring. Have a great day.
